CARGO™ is an RNAi (e.g. siRNA, miRNA) delivery system developed for the emerging area of genetic therapies. CARGO is based on the use of natural (miRNA) or synthetic (siRNA) small inhibitory RNA sequences that can be used to treat disease by turning off specific genes, for example genes that allow cancer cells to grow. The major hurdle in the development of these therapies is delivering the RNAi to the right cells.
The CARGO delivery system is composed of biodegradable, biocompatible polymers; suggesting its potential use both as a research tool and a therapeutic. The CARGO delivery system can encapsulate RNAi, protect it from degradation and prevent rapid elimination of RNAi from the body. It also enables the attachment of cell-specific ligands in order to target RNAi delivery to specific cells.
CARGO has been specifically designed for use in vivo. It has been demonstrated to deliver RNAI selectively to cancer cells in living animals. Meros has made the technology available as a ready-to-use kit for academic research in addition to licensing it for commercial therapeutic use. Furthermore, with our custom formulation services, Meros can provide polymer that has been conjugated to a specific targeting ligand to meet the individual needs of our clients.
